Requires maximum bright, indirect light or soft, direct morning sunlight. Strong light is essential to prevent the rosette from stretching out (etiolating) and to preserve its tight, natural geometric form. Protect it from intense, scorching mid-summer afternoon sun to avoid scarring the delicate leaf windows.
Treat it like an alpine cactus. It is critically sensitive to overwatering and prone to sudden stem rot. Allow the substrate to dry out 100% between waterings. In the winter, reduce watering to an absolute minimum—giving it just a light splash only if the thick leaves feel slightly soft to a gentle squeeze.
Plant it in an exceptionally sharp, porous, mineral-heavy soil mix. Use a blend consisting of 70% to 80% grit (pumice, perlite, coarse sand, and small lava rocks) and 20% organic matter. Choose a very small, shallow clay pot; its root system is tiny and fragile, and excess soil will harbor deadly, stagnant moisture.
Unlike common tropical varieties, this collection does not require high humidity and will rot in wet, enclosed terrariums. It thrives in dry home conditions provided it has excellent ambient air circulation around the crown to evaporate any trapped moisture quickly.
