Requires abundant bright, indirect light or soft, direct morning sun to preserve its compact rosette geometry and rich leaf coloring. Avoid harsh, searing mid-summer afternoon sun, which can scorch and permanently scar the succulent leaf windows.
Highly susceptible to root and stem rot from overwatering. Allow the potting medium to dry out 100% between waterings. In the winter, reduce watering to an absolute minimum—giving it just a tiny sip only if the leaves feel slightly soft to a gentle pinch.
Demands an exceptionally sharp, porous, mineral-heavy soil mix. A blend of 70% gritty inorganic materials (pumice, perlite, fine lava rock, or coarse sand) and 30% organic matter (coco coir) is ideal.
Always plant in a small, shallow container with active drainage holes. This species has a very tiny, delicate root system and prefers to be tightly root-bound; excess soil around the roots will retain too much ambient moisture and drown the plant.
