Strictly winter-growing and summer-dormant. Rosettes appear with autumn dampness, photosynthesize through winter, and die back in spring as the flowers push up (September to October in nature).

Provide moderate water during its winter vegetative period, allowing the sand mix to mostly dry out between waterings. When it sheds its leaves for summer dormancy, withhold water entirely to mimic its dry, baked native habitat.

Replicate its natural habitat by using an ultra-lean, acidic, or neutral mineral mix. Use at least 80% white quartz sand, fine pumice, or granite grit blended with 20% sandy loam.

Requires an open, exceptionally bright position with direct sun to prevent the prostrate leaves from elongating and growing unnaturally upright.
