Strictly winter-growing and summer-dormant. Fresh rosettes push through in autumn and grow all winter. Unlike some Hoarea species that drop leaves long before blooming, P. moniliforme often flowers in early spring (September) while its foliage is still fully present and green.
Provide routine, deep waterings during autumn and winter, always letting the soil dry thoroughly in between. Once it goes dormant in late spring and summer, cease watering completely. The subterranean beaded roots will easily rot if kept in warm, damp substrate.
Requires an exceptionally open, bright location with direct sun. High light preserves the signature flat layout of the winter rosette and stops the flower stems from bending or stretching.
