Substrate Composition: Plant it in an heavily inorganic mix. A ratio of 70% to 80% grit (pumice, perlite, lava rock, and coarse sand) to 20% organic material keeps the roots breathing.
Watering (The "Hard" Growth Rule): Experienced collectors recommend growing this hybrid "hard". During the spring and summer active growth phase, water it thoroughly only when the soil is completely dry. If you give it too much water and nitrogen-heavy fertilizer, it will lose its squat shape and stretch out rapidly.
Baking Sun: It requires full, direct sun (at least 4–6 hours daily). High light exposure triggers the beautiful silver-grey sheen on the bark and encourages tight spine formatting.
