A small pachycaul tree reaching up to 4 meters tall. It features a swollen, bulbous base (caudex) meant for water storage, paired with a narrow trunk and a full, loosely branched canopy.

It is highly distinguished by its compound leaves that possess an unwinged rachis (leaf stalk). Each leaf consists of 9 to 21 tiny, practically stalkless (subsessile) leaflets clustered tightly together.

Requires full, bright sun to mimic its dry-forest habitat.

Needs extremely sharp, fast-draining substrate to prevent root rot.

Provide regular water during the spring and summer growing season, followed by a strict dry rest when it sheds its leaves for winter dormancy
