Grow well in light gritty soil with a very liberal drainage.
They prefer light shade rather than full sun, although stems may not colour up under shady conditions.
Provide bright, indirect light, use a well-draining cactus mix, and water thoroughly but infrequently, allowing soil to dry between waterings, especially reducing water in winter to prevent root rot.
Protect from frost, fertilize lightly during the growing season (spring/summer), and stop in late summer before dormancy.
