Its specific name, velloziflorum, was chosen due to the remarkable resemblance of its blossoms to members of the Vellozia genus. Unlike the typical drooping, trumpet-shaped blooms of common Amaryllis, its white flowers are erect, salverform (flat-faced with a long tube), and nearly perfectly symmetrical (actinomorphic).
The flower features an unusual internal layout with exceptionally short stamens that position all the anthers at nearly the exact same level inside the throat.
Requires a highly specialized lithophytic or gritty mineral mix. Growing on granite outcroppings, its roots demand excellent drainage and should never be trapped in dense potting soil.
