Requires bright, filtered indirect sunlight. Morning sun is highly beneficial for intensifying the "cherry" red pigmentation. Avoid scorching afternoon sun, which will instantly scar or bleach the light-colored tissue patches.
Adhere strictly to the soak-and-dry method. Only water the pot when the substrate has been completely bone-dry for a few days. During the cold winter rest phase, keep it almost completely dry.
Must be planted in a highly porous, quick-draining mineral matrix. A mix of 60% to 70% volcanic grit (pumice, lava rock) and 30% organic cactus soil prevents water from pooling around the root base.
Keep it protected in a warm room or greenhouse. It prefers conditions between 20°C and 30°C and will suffer damage if exposed to cold environments dropping below 10°C
