Prefers bright, indirect sunlight or partial shade. Morning sun is ideal for deepening its rich purple and burgundy hues. Harsh, direct afternoon sun can cause permanent scorch marks.
A drought-tolerant species that requires a strict soak-and-dry cycle. Water deeply only when the potting mix is dry all the way to the bottom. Keep the substrate completely dry during winter dormancy.
Needs an exceptionally porous, fast-draining mineral cactus mix (consisting of grit, pumice, and coarse sand) to shield its delicate root system from damp stagnation.
Cold-sensitive. While it can handle short-term drops if kept bone-dry, it thrives best in warm environments between 20°C and 30°C and should be brought indoors when temperatures fall below 10°C.
