Substrate (Strict Drainage): Requires a rigorously gritty, mineral-based medium. Aim for 70% to 80% coarse grit (pumice, crushed lava, or sharp sand) mixed with no more than 20% to 30% organic loam. Stagnant moisture around the tuberous root is fatal.
Light Exposure: Thrives in intense, bright indirect sunlight. High light levels are necessary to maintain its compact, flat form and trigger its striking, ornamental purple-red epidermal hues.
Watering and Dormancy: Water deeply only when the potting medium has bone-dry conditions throughout the root zone. Significantly scale back or entirely freeze watering during dark winter months or seasonal monsoons when the plant enters semi-dormancy.
