Unlike many members of its genus that produce sparse foliage, this species sends up a dense crown of 30 to 50 concurrent, filiform (thread-like) leaves. These leaves dynamically coil and twist tightly as they grow, reaching a max height of about 15 centimeters.
The plant shoots a slender raceme bearing small, delicate, star-shaped white or pale-pink flowers featuring distinct dark central stripes (keels) down each petal. The blossoms emerge alongside the foliage and typically last only a day or two.
