A flattened-globular, deep green body reaching about 15 cm in diameter and 8 cm in height.

It features 16 to 22 pronounced ribs adorned with distinctive, small, nipple-like (mamillate) tubercles along the edges. 

Each oval areole holds just 5 to 7 slightly curved radial spines that hug the body of the plant. They range from yellow-white to light brown and grow up to 11 mm long. 

Mature plants grow a cream-white, woolly cap at the top (cephalium). Out of this cap, highly fragrant, night-blooming white flowers emerge, followed by pale pink fruits.
