Flattened, spherical (depressed globose) bronze-green stem reaching roughly 13 cm in diameter and 7 cm in height.

Formed by about 15 ribs lined with oval areoles. It is heavily armored with slightly recurved gray spines. The upward-facing spines stay short (around 1 cm), while the side and downward spines can grow up to 3.5 cm long.

Upon reaching maturity, it develops a prominent cream-white woolly Discocactus cephalium at its crown. From this structure emerge highly fragrant, nocturnal white flowers that bloom for just a single night.
