It retains the species' signature tiny, feathery, fern-like leaflets attached to a uniquely winged central stem (rhachis).
Over time, it forms a swollen, aromatic, contorted trunk with peeling brownish-grey bark, making it an excellent candidate for miniature pachycaul bonsai.
