Growing as a tall, arborescent (tree-like) succulent, it features a single, relatively slender trunk that can reach 3 to 4 meters (10 to 13 feet) tall in cultivation, and up to 8 meters in the wild. The trunk is topped with a dense rosette of deeply grooved, recurved dull-green leaves heavily lined with tiny reddish-brown teeth.
