Grows in well-drained soil with some of water when in growth and some sun.

Distinctly tree-like or shrubby, developing an erect stem that can reach up to 2 meters in height. The stem is clean and naked at the base, branching out or remaining simple.

Lance-shaped, tapering green leaves measuring 30–36 cm long and 3–7 cm wide. Juvenile leaves feature scattered whitish spots which fade or change as the plant matures. Margins are armed with small, forward-pointing triangular teeth about 1 mm long.

 In the cooler winter months, it pushes up a tall, heavily branched flowering stalk reaching up to 70 cm long. It produces tubular, nectar-rich blooms that range from pale yellow with greenish tips to warm coral-pink and reddish-orange.
