Growing as a compact, evergreen perennial, it rarely exceeds 30 cm (12 inches) in height. It offsets rapidly from its base to form lush, mounding clumps of multi-headed open rosettes. Its narrow, thick leaves are dark green to apple-green and heavily blanketed with striking, elongated white spots on both sides. A fascinating characteristic of this species is its light flexibility: while it is one of the few small aloes that can maintain a lush, deep green color in deeper shade, moving it into full, direct sun prompts a beautiful defense mechanism where the green foliage blushes into deep coppery-red and purple tones.
