Grows in well-drained soil with some of water when in growth and some sun.

It is a mini-tree succulent that grows up to 10 to 12 feet (3–3.6 meters) tall, making it significantly shorter and much more manageable for home gardens than the massive, 60-foot Aloe barberae.

It forms a beautifully rounded, multi-branched canopy that branches dichotomously (splitting evenly into pairs) from a smooth, thick trunk. The common name "Medusa" comes from the twisting, serpent-like appearance of these numerous branches topped with rosettes.

The branches are tipped with dense rosettes of long, arching, strap-like leaves. The leaves are a bright, glossy green with fine, harmless white teeth lining the margins.

It flowers abundantly during the winter months (typically June to July in the southern hemisphere). It produces upright, branched clusters of tubular, bright yellow-orange blossoms that are a favorite of nectar-feeding birds.
