Grows in well-drained soil with some of water when in growth and some sun.

Under standard light, the leaves are dark olive-green. When grown under full, unshaded desert sun, the foliage undergoes a dramatic shift, turning deep brownish-purple, dark copper, or nearly solid black.

The thick, heavy, lance-shaped leaves feature a moderately rough, matte texture that feels similar to worn velveteen or suede.

The leaves are intensely turgid and often curve sharply downward. In young or container-grown specimens, they grow in opposite pairs that stack tightly on top of each other, creating a perfectly flattened, symmetrical tower shape.

This species belongs to the "inermis" (toothless) group. The edges feature virtually no marginal spikes, or only microscopic, blunt teeth measuring less than 1.5 mm. A completely toothless form is known as Aloe fleurentiniorum 'edentata'.
