Unlike Albuca spiralis (which usually curls mostly at the leaf tips), Albuca bruce-bayeri tightly corkscrews upward directly from the very base of the leaf.

The dark green leaves are covered in microscopic, sessile glands that exude a sticky substance. In the wild, blowing desert sand sticks to these leaves, providing a natural layer of camouflage and sun protection.

It is a diminutive, slow-growing plant. The exposed or semi-buried round bulb produces leaves that reach about 6 to 12 inches (15–30 cm) tall.

Uniquely, it pushes out nodding, greenish-glaucous or yellow-green flowers in autumn right at the beginning of its growth cycle, rather than in the spring like other Albuca species.
