It forms tight, beautiful, spherical rosettes. The thick, fleshy leaves are a shimmering, pale silvery-blue to gray-green, outlined with large, dark, curving marginal teeth and a prominent terminal spine.

Individual rosettes typically grow 3 to 5 feet (0.9 to 1.5 meters) tall and wide. Over time, the plant produces offsets (suckers) at the base to form architectural clumping colonies.

It is a monocarpic perennial, meaning it lives for decades before producing a singular, towering flower spike with yellow blossoms. This magnificent bloom is its final act; it attracts vital pollinators like hummingbirds and bats before the main rosette dies.
