The leaves are small, club-shaped, or spindle-shaped (oblanceolate to fusiform). They are completely covered in an incredibly rough, warty, and brain-like texture (verrucose epidermis) that helps the plant blend perfectly into the surrounding granite pebbles.
The 'Silverfontein' variant exhibits a stunning, pale silver-green to chalky-gray base. Under high light and drought stress, the tips and warty ridges blush with intense maroon, purple, and copper tones.
It forms an incredibly slow-growing, compact dwarf shrublet, rarely exceeding 5–7 cm in total height. The stems are short, thick, and branch sparingly.
